Baking Bread in a 1950s Stoneware Dutch Oven

Baking Bread in a 1950s Stoneware Dutch Oven

I was ecstatic to find this vintage Dutch Oven that screams TERRA at the thrift store recently, and immediately knew this meant I had to take my first go at making homemade bread.

This gorgeous ovenproof piece is from a collection of old-fashioned stoneware by an American company called Marcrest from the 1950s. I was even able to find the vintage advertisement online showing the full collection, and spotted the exact Dutch oven I now own. This piece is such a beautiful, warm brown colour (apparently called colorado brown) and has lovely decorative accents.

Even as a beginner to baking bread, it helped me make a perfect loaf - crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside!

While I couldn’t resist keeping this piece, somehow my mom ended up finding a SECOND one which is now listed in the shop... the Daisy Dutch Oven: your ticket to making a warm, dreamy loaf of homemade bread.
